The potential of the coconut

Recently on a flight to China I was offered a coconut milk drink in apack. I took it out of curiosity and found it could easily compete with the sweetened drinks on the tray. It just goes to show there is yet another use for the coconut that can grow in demand.
Now many producers of palm oil are looking for a way to increase their income with the low prices today. There was palpable excitement in the search for a new crop at the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism (MAHA) exhibition held not long ago in Serdang.
There were two that I saw, one being durian, of course, with Musang King seedlings being popular. The taste had caught on in China, and price was no object.
The other craze was of course coconuts, as the oil is being promoted as healthy, which is a change from past views. Coconut oil products are associated with health, wellness and beauty such as for skin care.
These three attributes are boosting sales. As a result, prices began to soar, and the supermarkets have added more shelf space for them to match the excitement.
