Service providers must keep up with technology and focus on trends like Big Data and analytics
Global business services (GBS) is the new buzzword in the services industry, as what was known just a year ago as shared services and outsourcing (SSO) has been renamed GBS.
Is this merely a matter of giving a sexier name to a business sector associated largely with call centres and low-level outsourcing?
No, says Multimedia Development Corp (MDeC) CEO Datuk Yasmin Mahmood. “The renaming was done in recognition of the increasingly knowledge- and analytics-based nature of customer requirements.”
Outsourcing Malaysia chairman David Wong Nan Fay concurs. He says GBS is an inclusive term that seeks to encompass the growing functions of players moving up the value chain to offer management services as opposed to just outsourcing services.
He explains: “GBS is about the integration of different functions – such as HR, IT or finance – in an end-to-end solution, instead of silo services.
