Nothing wrong in having foreign directors
FocusM | 05 Jul 2019 00:30
The criticism levelled at national sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional Bhd for appointing foreign directors to its board is misguided.

On July 1, the fund appointed three individuals, of whom only one is a foreigner, to its board. They were Toh Puan Azian Mohd Aziz, the Attorney-General’s Chambers head of advisory division; Prof Xiao’ou Tang, founder of SenseTime and professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Lau Seng Yee, Tencent Holding Company Ltd senior executive vice-president and chairman of group marketing and global branding.

Former deputy prime minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi mocked that Khazanah should be renamed Khazanah International for including “foreigners” in its board of directors. Perhaps he was not informed that Lau of Tencent is actually a Malaysian. The only foreigner is Tang.
