The Rum Bar KL is the latest venture by the Werner Group.

It is a cold, rainy evening and I am relieved to step into The Rum Bar KL for some warmth and respite from the downpour. The Rum Bar KL is the latest venture by Werner Group, founded by Werner Kuhn whose name should sound familiar if you are a regular at the dining and drinking hub of Changkat Bukit Bintang.

In 2005, Kuhn opened his first restaurant, El Cerdo, a European-style restaurant famous for its pork knuckles. At that time, El Cerdo was one of the very few pork-centric restaurants in the city and was an instant hit with both locals and expatriates. Over the next 12 years, Kuhn would go on to open more restaurants including Dining in the Dark KL and Opium KL.

The Rum Bar KL boasts more than 270 brands of rum on a large shelf, which serves as an impressive backdrop for the restaurant-and-bar. Kuhn claims that this is the first and only venue in the country to serve Iberico lamb. Many are familiar with Iberico pork, which is now a highlight in many upscale Spanish restaurants in Malaysia, but Iberico lamb is harder to come by.
