Working with 93-year old Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is a learning process for Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah. To put it in a different perspective, it is a learning process for both Dr M and Wan Azizah. One is a seasoned politician, while the other is the first woman Deputy Prime Minister. But mutual respect and focusing on working with one another seems to be the binding ethos between them.

Quote: “We are both doctors, right? Doctor to doctor, I feel that I can talk to him without any barriers and I do talk to him. I know that in the Asian style, the younger person must show respect, this is important even though I have had history. But I mean we went through that and it is over. I do not want to look to the past, I want to look to the future. I think he, too, has to adjust to us and he sees our ways and he listens and that is important. When he makes a decision that is it. Very firm. We argue and he listens. We have argued over a few things and he has changed. So I think it is a nice working relationship. I can speak to him and Anwar also speaks to him. And I think this is important because there are attempts to drive a wedge between us [and Tun]. Especially my husband.”
